Lawmaker-actress Jayaprada's cavalcade gets stuck in flood-hit Moradabad

Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), Aug.20 (ANI): Lawmaker and actress Jayaprada's car cavalcade remained stuck for hours in flood-hit Moradabad on Friday.

"Since I have come, I have been trying to come out, but have been unable due to flood waters. We have not been able to move forward due to the accumulated water. It's been three to four hours. A tree too fell on our car but we got saved," said Jayaprada.

The flood situation has aggravated in Uttar Pradesh following heavy rains in the Himalayan region.

Traffic on the national highways connecting Lucknow-Delhi, Delhi-Bareilly and Delhi-Bijnor has been completely disrupted due to floods.

The over flowing of rivers have submerged several localities. Districts worst affected by the rains are Bahraich, Gonda and Barabanki.

The water released in the Ganga River from various dams has also flooded many areas in Bijnor and Moradabad.

Flood-relief outposts have been established in the affected districts to carry out relief operations Other districts affected by rising water level in rivers were Bareilly, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Ballia, Allahabad, Varanasi, Etawah, Ghazipur, Balrampur, Siddharthanagar, Unnao, Sotapur, Ghaziabad and Deoria.

Though she was stuck, Jayaprada took time out of her predicament to extend support to civil rights activist Anna Hazare on the issue of corruption.

However, she said that Hazare should not put down or underestimate Parliament.

"We are not against Anna; we are in support of his views on corruption. Nobody is going to support corruption; we are there to fight against corruption so that the country truly moves forward. But you cannot go against the parliament, this is a system and things should be done accordingly," she said.

Hazare, who has become a symbol of popular outrage over endemic corruption in India, left Tihar jail on Friday to carry on his fast at the Ramlila ground after a beleaguered government caved in to huge public protests across the country.

Hazare has slammed the government's draft version of the Lokpal Bill that has been placed before the Parliament's standing committee for review and vote. (ANI)
