4th Lieutenant Governor's football tournament commences today
A total of 10 teams will fight it out over a next fortnight to claim the honours of the fourth edition of the prestigious Lieutenant Governor's invitational prize money DDA football tournament that commences at the capital’s Ambedkar stadium here on Tuesday.
The participating teams include 10 non I-League sides from across the country.

There will be four Delhi state club teams and six outstation outfits. All the teams have been divided in two groups with five teams each.
Local favourites and present DSA League champions New Delhi Heroes will take on Punjab Police, Jalandhar from Group ‘A’ in the opening match of the tournament.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has given an apt platform for the non I-League teams to show their mettle and for few to prepare themselves for the upcoming second division National Football league.
The invited outstation teams who will strive hard for the coveted title comprise Border Security Force and Punjab Police from Jalandhar, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) of Mumbai, Peerless Sports Club from Kolkata, J&K Bank from Srinagar and State Bank of Travancore (SBT) from Thiruvananthapuram.
The tournament will be played on league-cum-knockout basis with the final scheduled on February 25. DDA’s vice-chairman Dinesh Rai will formally inaugurate the tournament at 12 Noon on Tuesday.
According to the Organising Secretary, Colonel SP Thapliyal, the tournament carries total prize money of Rs. 4,20,000 with the champion team getting Rs. 2,00,000.
The runners-up will receive Rs. 1,00,000 while the losing semi-finalists will receive Rs. 50,000 each. Four best players of the tournament will also be benefitted with Rs. 5,000 each.
