New Delhi, Aug 9 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the Tamil Nadu Government's plea to scrap uniform education system.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Government implemented the uniform education system, when it was in power in Tamil Nadu.

A three-judge bench of Justices JM Panchal, Deepak Verma and BS Chauhan dismissed the state government's plea that the uniform system of school education (Amendment) Act was sub-standard, lacked quality and was politically motivated.

"Today the Supreme Court of India has confirmed the Madras High Court order about Samacheer Kalvi (uniform education system) issue," said M. Baalu, a lawyer.

"The Madras High Court order was confirmed by the Supreme Court today with 25 reasons and direct the state government to issue the Samacheer Kalvi books immediately within 10 days and the Samacheer Kalvi scheme in this academic year for the students and all the appeal preferred by the state as well as the private matriculation schools was dismissed by the Supreme Court today," he added.

Immediately after assuming power, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Government-led by present Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, had moved an amendment that it was sub-standard and the syllabus prescribed was essentially done to promote the political interest of the then DMK Government.

The Madras High Court's order had earlier struck down the amendment moved by the AIADMK government.

"The Madras High Court, they struck down the amendment introduced by the present government and stay the Samacheer Kalvi," said Baalu. (ANI)
