Telangana govt. employees to go on strike over separate state row

Hyderabad , Tue, 09 Aug 2011 ANI

Hyderabad, Aug 9 (ANI): Government employees in Hyderabad are all set to observe an indefinite strike from August 17 over the demand of a separate Telangana state out of the existing province.

The Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC), which includes employees, officers, teachers, doctors, workers and other unions on Monday (August 08), threatened to go on strike to press their demand.

Doctor Pal Reddy, a professor at the dental college said they would stage demonstration but their protest would not harm medical services rendered to the people.

"We feel it is our minimum responsibility to show, this is the minimum thing during when all the people are coming leaving their work and they are coming out and we wanted to, without disturbing the people, the treatment or whatever the medical problems, we want to attend them as well as to show the protest. This is our wish and we would like to continue till we achieve Telangana," he said.

Meanwhile, K. Kavitha, daughter of K. Chandrashekar Rao, chief of regional Telangana Rashtra Samithi party (TRS) said it is time for central government to announce Telangana state immediately.

"Today we all know that Telangana is a demand that is being accepted by country and especially after the debate in the parliament that has taken place. Entire country is now aware of the Telangana issue," she said

"Not only common people but the entire regime of the society, doctors, nurses and entire medical staff is today sitting on the fast for the demand of the Telangana. Not only doctors but lawyers and everybody in Telangana are now asking for it and I think now it is time for the central government to react and stop discussing Telangana issue and immediately announce Telangana state," she added.

The four-decade-old demand for Telangana, which seeks to carve out of the economically less developed part of Andhra Pradesh, gathered momentum last year after the Congress-led UPA Government accepted the demand in principle.

Several protests and shutdowns had brought Andhra Pradesh to a near halt in 2009 and 2010, as pro-Telangana activists persisted with their demand. (ANI)
