New Delhi, Aug 7(ANI): Senior leaders and activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a protest in New Delhi today demanding the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over her alleged involvement in the multi-billion dollar 2010 Commonwealth Games scam.

Shouting slogans, the enraged BJP activists and leaders burnt an effigy of Dikshit to vent their ire.

Speaking to mediapersons, BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu urged Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to take swift action against Dikshit, stressing that failure to do so would be a sign of "cowardice".

"Sheila Dikshit must be brought to justice. Everything should be disclosed in the public," Sidhu said.

"Mr. Prime Minister, not taking action on a wrong deed is a sign of cowardice. There has to be a criminal probe into the matter and Sheila Dikshit must tender her resignation. This is the demand of the BJP from the streets to the parliament," he added.

The protest came days after the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report indicted her on the irregularities observed in the Games' preparations.

The report has slammed Dikshit for overseeing "ill-conceived and ill-planned" projects and unduly favouring certain firms for contracts.

The CAG also held Dikshit responsible for the wasteful expenditure to the tune of several hundred million rupees.

Dikshit, however, has denied any wrongdoing. (ANI)
