Europa League 'a killer' for Tottenham's Premier League chance: Redknapp

London, Aug 4(ANI): Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has said that doing well in the Europa League would be "a killer" to the club's hopes of challenging for the Premier League title this season or even a Champions League spot.

Spurs find themselves in Europe's second tier competition after finishing fifth in the league last season, a headache Redknapp could do without.

If Tottenham wanted to lift the Europa League trophy it would add an extra 17 games to an already packed schedule, and with Champions League qualification the No.1 priority Redknapp is not prepared to take the risk.

As such he will use Europe this time round as a stage for the club's youngsters to prove themselves, while resting senior stars.

"The young lads will get plenty of games in the Europa League because otherwise I think it's a killer, to be frank. Thursday and Sunday every week... a nightmare. You've got no chance in the Premier League with that, it kills you off," the Sun quoted Redknapp, as saying.

"We will give those boys like Jake Livermore and Andros Townsend experience and see how we go. We've loaned a few young players out, but we are going to keep a few behind and give them the chance to play in the European competition," he added. (ANI)
