Assam's scratch art exponent gets Guinness record recognition

Guwahati, July 29 (ANI): Apuraj Barooah, a young artist from Assam recently made it to the Guinness World Records for drawing the longest piece of scratch art in London.

 

Barooah, who now wants to promote the art form in the region, said: "I have some projects in my mind. I will implement those very soon. I have made landscapes, portraits and other items, now I want to do some abstract art."

 

Barooah, was an accountant in a state government office, before he left his job to continue his life as a promoter of the unique art form.

 

To get the record of the longest scratch art written in his name, Barooah drew the scratch work between 8pm of July 8 and 8am of July 9, according to the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

 

His painting included Bihu of Assam and Bhangra from the Punjab as the two Indian folk dance forms, besides the folk dances of 39 other countries, including Japan, the UK, France, Italy, Spain.

 

He has been practising scratch art on bromide papers, generally used for printing photographs, with the help of razor blades, for the past about 18 years, since 1993. (ANI)
