London, July 26 (ANI): British Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered an urgent review of threats from far-right extremist groups in the country in the wake of the terror attacks in Norway.
Cameron has reportedly asked the security services and police to consider their scrutiny of groups such as the English Defence League (EDL) and report any concerns or recommendations to the government's National Security Council (NSC), the Telegraph reports.
Broader issues such as the licensing of firearms and the supply of ammunition and fertilisers that can be used for bombs will also be scrutinized, the paper said.
Security officials have been ordered to study contingency plans to ensure that adequate measures are in place to react to any 'copycat' shooting spree by an extremist in this country.
Cameron ordered the urgent work at a meeting of the NSC, which was dominated by discussions over the Norwegian atrocity.
Speaking at a Downing Street press conference alongside Jose Zapatero, his Spanish counterpart, Cameron said that 'Britain shares in the sorrow and the anger at the despicable killing which took place on Friday.'
Anders Breivik, the main suspect in the Norwegian bombing and shooting, has claimed that he was recruited by two English extremists at a meeting in Britain attended by seven other people in 2002. (ANI)
