Solan (HP), July 25 (ANI): The migrant labourers from Nepal have taken up farming as a profession for the past few years in Kandaghat town of Himachal Pradesh's Solan District.
Talking to mediapersons, Bhim Bahadur, a Nepali migrant labourer said that he came here to earn money for his family.
"I have come from Nepal to earn livelihood. I am paid less here. It helps us in earning some amount of money and it also provides a good amount of money to the zamindars (landowners) as well. Though it is difficult to save money but I try to save it. I would get to know later whether I would be able to save money or not," said Bahadur.
These labourers are involved in vegetable farming and the profit is equally divided between the farmers and the landowners.
"If one farmer sows two kilograms seed of beans, nearly 40 to 50 bags (40 kilograms each) are produced from that. If we get a good market then we are able to get good money for our produce. A large number of people have employed workers from Nepal and whatever they earn, they give 50 per cent of that money to them. In this way both of us are reaping benefits," said Madan Gopalthakur, a farmer.
In Himachal Pradesh ,vegetables are grown in about 65,000-hectare land area. Out of this approximately 9,000-hectare area were being cultivated in Solan district of the state.
More than 2,000 Nepali labourers are helping in vegetable farming in Kandaghat region. (ANI)
