Manhas to lead North Zone (CAPITAL SPORTS)

Delhi's prolific all-rounder Mitthun Manhas will lead North Zone in the Duleep Trophy match against East Zone to be played in Rajkot from February 11 to 14. Apart from Manhas, Delhi's Aakash Chopra, Rajat Bhatia, Chetnya Nanda and Shikhar Dhawan have also made the cut in the 16-member squad.

All the players have been picked up by the zonal selection committee in a meeting that was held on Tuesday at the DDCA in the Capital under the chairmanship of Bhupinder Singh (Sr) from Punjab.

According to the North Zone's selection committee convenor Sunil Dev, Delhi's wicket-keeper batsman Puneet Bisht alongwith Sachin Rana, Gaurav Vashisht (Haryana) and Manish Gupta of Himachal Pradesh have been put stand-byes for the team.

NORTH ZONE SQUAD: Mitthun Manhas (Captain) Aakash Chopra, Rajat Bhatia, Chetnya Nanda, Shikhar Dhawan (Delhi) Karan Goel, Udai Kaul, VRV Singh, Ravi Inder Singh (Punjab), Yashpal Singh (SSCB), Ashok Thakur, Paras Dogra, Vikramjit Malik (Himachal Pradesh), Amit Mishra, Joginder Sharma (Haryana) and Samiullah Beigh (Jammu and Kashmir).

Rajiv shines for Manish Group

An unbeaten 76 by Rajeev Bose helped Manish Group beat West Delhi Academy by 51 runs in a league match of the Khushal Memorial day-night 20-20 tournament.

Brief scores: Manish Group 155/5 in 20 overs (Rajeev Bose 75 n.o, Sakib Alam 34 n.o., Sandeep Kaushik 33, Gaurav Jangra 3/28) bt WDCA: 104/6 in 20 overs (Mukul Dagar 31, Sakib Alam 3/18, Rahul Balan 3/13).

All-round display by Manan

A fine all-round display by Manan Sharma (39 runs, 3/11) aided Sonnet Club to beat Mishra Sports by 60 runs in the 3rd Nishant Chaudhary Memorial tournament.

Brief scores: Sonnet Club: 162 in 38.3 overs (Manan Sharma 39, Praveen Singh Yadav 35; Tejasvi Yadav 3/31, Mohit Sharma 3/25) bt Mishra Sports 102 in 34.2 overs (Tejasvi Yadav 35; Manan Sharma 3/11).

BBPS in Frank Anthony finals

Riding on Rohan Kalra's (3/35) and unbeaten 38 by Dhruv Gola, Bal Bharti Public School (Pusa Road) defeated Amity International School (Noida) by three wickets and entered the final of the Frank Anthony memorial cricket tournament.

Brief scores: Amity School: 165 in 34.2 overs (Arihant Jain 57; Rohan Kalra 3/35). BBPS 166/7 in 39.2 overs (Dhruv Gola 38 n.o, Aman kumar 3/26).

Cheryl's top scored with six points to help St Mary's Girls beat Father Agnel School 13-5 and entered the next round of the Sri Ram invitational basketball tournament.

Goswami Girdhari Lal Cricket Tourney

The top eight teams of the Capital are expected to take part in the ninth edition of the Goswami Girdhari Lal memorial cricket tournament beginning from February 17 to 24. Participating teams include Malviya Club, Vidya Jain Academy and Sonnet Club.
