Islamabad, July 22(ANI): As India and England battle to gain supremacy at "home of cricket" Lord's in the 2000th Test, Pakistan's Niaz stadium, which hosted the historic 1000th Test in 1984, has only faded memories to cherish.
According to the News, the ground is now largely deserted, with the turf being spoiled by wedding parties.
It is also used as a helipad making it suitable only for local matches to be played.
"It's disappointing to see the condition of Niaz stadium. With no international cricket in Pakistan and facilities unused, it had to happen," said former Pakistan spinner Iqbal Qasim, a member of the team which played in the landmark 1000th Test against New Zealand.
"There's no comparison between Lord's and Hyderabad, even the players didn't know about the occasion and it is only now we know that oh, we were part of the 1000th Test," he added.
Built in early 1970s, it is the only international sporting venue in Hyderabad, Pakistan's fourth-largest city.
Pakistan has never lost any match, whether Test or ODI, on this ground.
It was also the stadium where Javed Miandad and Mudassar Nazar shared a then world-record equaling partnership of 451, against India in January 1983. (ANI)
