New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists on Thursday staged a protest here against alleged government atrocities on people residing in unauthorised colonies.
BJP lawmaker Vijay Kumar Malhotra led the protest. Vijendra Gupta (Delhi BJP President) and Ramesh Bidhuri (lawmaker and Vice- President of Delhi BJP) were the others who took part in the protest.
They demanded that the government stop committing atrocities against the five million residents of unauthorized colonies in Delhi, and added that the Delhi government should stop serving notices to the residents of these colonies.
Police had to use water canons to disperse the protesters.
Around 1639 colonies have been declared unauthorized by the Congress government in Delhi.
The residents welfare associations (RWAs) of the declared unauthorised colonies were given provisional certificates on October 4, 2008 by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, with a promise that they (colonies) would be regularised within a year and no development fee would be charged.
Due to indifference and negligence of the state government and Delhi Development Authority (DDA), around 40 percent of the people do not own any house in Delhi. (ANI)
