Keonjhar (Orissa), July 20 (ANI): Three Maoists laid down arms before police authorities on Wednesday in Orissa's Keonjhar District.
The surrendered Maoists have been identified as Bela Purty alias Sunita (19 ), Ladar Jamda (20) and Lengera Tiria (18) belonging to nearby villages of the district.
According to police authorities, the Maoists had joined a local Maoist group two years ago and were involved in several activities in and around the district.
"I am sure that with the surrender of these Maoists, the Maoist organizations in the region would weaken. We also urge other Maoists to surrender to the police authorities," said Jaswant Jethwa, DIG, Keonjhar district.
One of the surrendered Maoists said that the main reason for them to leave the organisation was harassment by other group members.
"We all were harassed by other members in the group. We had to walk a lot in the forest areas that became difficult for us. Members of the organization also started killing innocent people, which we did not approve of and that is why we decided to leave the group," said Lengera Tiria.
He also gave an account of how women were sexually exploited and molested by male counterparts in the group.
Meanwhile, police authorities also gave each of the Maoists Rs 10,000 as per the rehabilitation policy. (ANI)
