Separatists call for peaceful march in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 2 (ANI): Separatist leaders have called for huge participation for a mass rally to be held in Srinagar next week.
The rally, which is to take place at the Lal Chowk area in the heart of Srinagar on October 6, has been called by the Jammu-Kashmir Coordination Committee, a new alliance of separatists, representatives of businesses and lawyers.
"I have firm belief that the programme that has been announced by the Coordination Committee will be carried out peacefully. The protesters would be carrying black flags and banners instead of the green flags. On these banners would be written the slogans for the demand for freedom," said Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman, All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC).
Meanwhile, hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani assured that their demand for self-determination includes the Hindus and other communities.
"The problem of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be resolved until around 13 million people of the state are not given the right to self-determination. Our demand for self-determination is not for Muslims alone but for the entire population of the state and that we should be granted an opportunity to exercise our right," he said. (ANI)
