London, July 9 (ANI): Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been released on bail for his alleged involvement the hacking scandal.
Police has arrested a third person in connection with the hacking scandal.
A 63-year-old man has been arrested from Surrey. Police are currently searching his property for evidence, the BBC reports.
Coulson, who was the editor of the newspaper between 2003 and 2007, is also under investigation for allegedly paying 100,000 pounds illegally to British police officers during his editorship with News of the World.
The 43-year-old was arrested by appointment at Lewisham police station in South London on Friday.
After nine hours of questioning by the police, Coulson said there was a lot he would like to say but could not. He denied knowledge of phone hacking when he was editor.
Coulson was also a close aide of British Prime Minister David Cameroon and worked as his media chief.
"I became friends with him (Coulson) and I think he did his job for me in a very effective way. He became a friend and he is a friend," Cameroon was quoted as saying.
The 168-year-old tabloid is accused of hacking into phones of crime victims, celebrities and politicians. Police have identified 4,000 possible targets.
As the crisis deepens, there are reports that News Corporation's chief Rupert Murdoch will arrive in London today. (ANI)
