Eleven suspected militants killed in Pak military offensive in Kurram

Parachinar , Fri, 08 Jul 2011 ANI

Parachinar, July 8(ANI): Eleven suspected militants have been killed in a military offensive in Pakistan's Kurram tribal region.

Security forces pounded militant hideouts in Kurram, killing 11 suspected militants and destroying three of their bases, the Dawn quoted security officials, as saying.

Nearly 50 militants have been killed in a military operation launched on Sunday, two weeks after the government had notified 80 square kilometres of the area in central Kurram as a conflict zone.

Authorities said that security forces have managed to secure several areas in the tribal region.

Central Kurram is adjacent to Tora Bora, reportedly the stronghold of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Militants having lost their positions in Waziristan and other parts of FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had set up their sanctuaries in central Kurram. (ANI)
