New Delhi, July 6 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said the combined efforts of the Centre and the respective State Governments will help fight the menace of Maoists and militants, which have become a major threat to national security.The state of Jammu and Kashmir has a system of SPOs (special police officers) and they have fought against militancy. The success attained there is due to the bigger role of the SPOs," said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
"Similarly, the country is struggling with the problem of Maoists and militants and we hope that talks would be conducted on this matter, as they both are a big threat to national security. The centre and state governments will have to think about how to carry on this fight," he added.
Despite strong measures taken by the federal government in eradicating the ultras, the Maoist insurgency has spread into the interiors of 20 of India's 28 states.
Analysts hold the view that the guerrilla war, waged mostly from the forests of central and eastern India by ultras of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist, poses the biggest threat to the country's internal security.
Hundreds of people have been killed and injured in the violence, perpetrated by both the rebels and the security forces in counter operations.
Maoists have also significantly increased their presence in tribal and rural areas in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. (ANI)
