Islamabad, July 5(ANI): US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter has assured that his country is keen to assist Pakistan in setting up energy projects to meet its power-related needs for long term.
"I feel saddened to see closure of the industrial units in Faisalabad or Lahore and I tried my level best in Capitol Hill to convince US Congressmen to provide Pakistan tangible help in this department," The News quoted Ambassador Munter, as saying.
He said Pakistan urgently needed electricity at cheaper rates, and that hydropower is a viable option.
Munter did not comment on political developments in Pakistan but expressed the hope that Pakistan would avoid political turmoil.
He described ties between India and Pakistan as sensitive, but added that both countries have made slight headway and must continue doing so.
Munter admitted that US-Pak military ties were satisfactory in the field of intelligence only.
"We are keen to enhance our relationship in economy and trades since these two are extremely useful for both sides", he said. (ANI)
