London, June 28 (ANI): Chinese premier Wen Jiabao has warned Britain against 'pointing fingers' on human rights and said that China will move towards democracy in its own time.
"On human rights, China and the UK should respect each other, respect the facts, treat each other as equals, engage in more co-operation than finger-pointing and resolve our differences through dialogue," Jiabao was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
Jiabao made the remarks while addressing a joint press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameroon, after both the countries had agreed on joint business partnership deals between them worth 1.4 billion pounds, The Telegraph reports.
"There is no trade-off in our relationship. It is not about either discussing trade or human rights," Jiabao said.
China is on a journey that will inevitably mean granting its huge population "freedom, equality and human rights," he added.
The premier also said China's democracy may not resemble that of the West, as freedom will be "achieved in different ways and forms in different societies and countries."
Cameron and Jiabao said that the two countries will be partners for growth, agreeing to have annual ministerial meetings between the two governments.
They also pledged increased trade in services and more Chinese investment in British infrastructure, which could see China help build the coalition's controversial high-speed rail link from London to the Midlands. (ANI)
