New Delhi, June 17 (AN): Carrying forward the vision of maintaining peace at the border areas and promoting cross-border bilateral trade, India and Bangladesh are working towards connecting their borders through rail and road.

The two Asian neighbours, who are working towards connecting the borders through rail and road and promote trade and tourism, have finally given a go ahead to the 15 km long Akhaura Agartala rail project via Ganganagar. This project has been approved for Rs 267 crores.

The rail link construction, which is estimated to be completed in two-and-a-half years, will promote trade between both sides, making Tripura a huge trading hub.

Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, who recently visited Bangladesh for bilateral talks, said: "The current state of relationship with Bangladesh is very cordial, very constructive. There are many tangible benefits to both sides accruing from the dialogue and the cooperation in which we are engaged in and I had a very productive exchange of views with my counterpart."

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijar-Ul-Quayes said: "Our effort is to arrive at convergences and to that extent, we have arrived at those convergences."

India and Bangladesh share over 4,000 km border and are closely working to resolve issues related to water sharing, cross-border terrorism, trade, rail and road links and much more. (ANI)
