'Paraded naked' Pak woman's 'rape victim' "wasn't ever assaulted"!

Islamabad, June 16(ANI): An alleged rape victim, whose physical abuse claims had led to a woman being paraded naked in Pakistan's Haripur city, has now denied that she is pregnant or was ever assaulted.

The 24-year-old woman, who had earlier alleged a boy of raping her, said that the incident was the result of a mere 'misunderstanding'.

Due to her earlier claims, a 45-year-old woman- the mother of the alleged rapist- was stripped and paraded in the streets of Neelor Bala village by the victim's former husband with the "blessings" of a village jirga that found Karim guilty of rape.

The 24-year-old told DIG Hazara Naeem Khan that her husband worked at a Lahore-based private firm and visited home intermittently. "On June 6, my husband came home and hit me for no reason. He accused me of being morally corrupt, and called the village jirga to decide whether to divorce me or not," The Express Tribune quoted her, as saying.

She said that her husband's brothers had misguided him that she had illicit relations with two villagers.

She said that the boy- whom she had accused of raping her- and another person had tried to harass her a few months ago, but she did not share the incident with her family over fears of a backlash. However, her former husband's brothers somehow learnt of the incident and exaggerated it, she added.

DIG Khan assured Sadia that she would be provided complete security if she decided to file a legal case against her former husband, and local human rights organisations also assured her of legal support.

Policemen have also been deployed around the homes of both women.

Meanwhile, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked for an immediate report from Hazara commissioner and DIG Khan. (ANI)
