Libya gets 2012 Olympic Games tickets amid 'Gaddafi will mar event' fears

London, June 15 (ANI): Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's eldest son has reportedly been officially allocated hundreds of 2012 Olympic Games tickets in London.

The Libyan regime has successfully requested close to 1,000 tickets to events at the London Olympics, The Telegraph reports.

According to reports, the country's attendance at the Games is being co-ordinated by Gaddafi's eldest son Muhammad Gaddafi, who heads the Libyan Olympic Committee.

The move could prove to be humiliating for the British government amid political unrest in Libya wherein the dictator has refused to give up power despite facing NATO airstrikes, and international condemnation.

The organisers of the London Games are reportedly bound to sell tickets to Libya, as the International Olympic Committee has failed to expel the regime despite a hue and cry over the political unrest in Libya.

Meanwhile, the London Olympic organising committee (LOGOC) has refused to disclose whether Libya has been given tickets to blue ribbon events like the opening ceremony, the men's 100metre final and cycling.

Now, the organisers fear that the event, which would be attended by 120 heads of state, could be marred by Gaddafi's loyalists attending the Games.

A Government spokesman, however, assured that Gaddafi would not be able to attend because he is subject to an international travel ban and an ICC arrest warrant.

The UK Border Agency refused to disclose whether members of his regime would be eligible for the special "Olympic visas" introduced last month for foreign officials, athletes and coaches. (ANI)
