New Delhi, June 9 (ANI): Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kantilal Bhuria on Thursday said the revision of the scheme of post-matric scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students is a boon to those, who wish to pursue higher studies.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, approved the revision of Centrally Sponsored Scheme of "Post-Matric Scholarship to students belonging to Scheduled Tribes for studies in India".
"Revision of the Scheme of Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe students is a boon to ST students who wish to pursue higher studies," said Bhuria.
The scheme provides financial assistance to such students, who pursue recognized post matriculation courses in India in recognized institutions.
The government provides 100 percent central assistance to State Governments and UT Administrations over and above their committed liability. The requirement of committed liability has been dispensed with in the case of the North-Eastern States.
The government has decided to revise the scheme with effect from July 1, 201O with the following modifications: revision of income-ceiling (of parents/guardians from all sources) from Rs. 1.45 lakh to Rs. 2.00 lakh per annum, regrouping of courses and revision of maintenance and other allowances.
According to the revised rates of maintenance and other allowances, a Group I Day Scholar will get Rs. 550 in place of Rs. 330; a Group II Day Scholar will get Rs. 530 in place of Rs. 330, a Group III Day Scholar will get Rs. 300 in place of Rs. 185, a Group IV Day Scholar will get Rs. 230 in place of Rs. 140.
As per the revised rates of maintenance and other allowances, a Group I hosteller will get Rs. 1200 in place of Rs. 740; a Group II hosteller will get Rs.
820 in place of Rs. 510, a Group III hosteller will get Rs. 570 in place of Rs.
355, a Group IV hosteller will get Rs. 380 in place of Rs. 235. (ANI)
