Chennai, June 9 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has moved a resolution demanding economic blockade against Sri Lanka.
The resolution unanimously passed on Wednesday in the Assembly also called for all displaced Tamils to be returned to their original homes.
The resolution also called upon the Central government to take necessary steps to convince other countries to impose economic sanctions against Sri Lanka.
"If the Indian government along with some other foreign country imposes economic blockade on Sri Lanka, I am sure within a short period of time, Sri Lanka would be compelled to do whatever we say," she said.
Jayalalithaa also demanded that India should press the United Nations to declare those responsible for the 'genocide' against Tamils in Sri Lanka as 'war criminals.'
She also demanded that the Central government to declare Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa a 'war criminal' for the 'genocide' committed on Sri Lankan Tamils.
Thousands of Tamil citizens were displaced after the Sri Lankan government carried out an all out offensive against the Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE) in the country's Jaffna peninsula last year. (ANI)
