London, June 5 (ANI): In an attempt to organize Switzerland's expanding legal sex industry, local officials in Zurich have proposed to set up 'sex boxes' for prostitutes and their clients.
The council initially plans to build 10 sex booths in Altstetten, with more to come up if the amount of activity warrants it.
The proposed measures include allotting three specific zones to the prostitutes and forbidding street prostitution along the Sihlquai riverbank and in the busy Langstrasse area, reports Times Online.
Instead, the activity will be permitted between Aargauerstrasse and W?rzgrabenstrasse, outside the city center, where booths will be built to accommodate sex workers and their customers.
The new measures aim to combat human trafficking, offer appropriate response to victims, minimize the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and protect both sex workers and the population at large from violence.
Among the proposed measures is the plan to create a special commission in which representatives of local NGOs will also ensure that resources are allocated as effectively as possible.
Furthermore, resources presently allocated to Sihlquai will be switched to the new area, so the only additional costs anticipated at 2.8 million dollars will be those of constructing the boxes. (ANI)
