New Delhi, June 3 (ANI): Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has deeply condoled the sad demise of former Haryana Chief Minister and leading Jat leader Bhajan Lal, who died in a local hospital in Hisar following a massive heart attack on Friday evening.
In his condolence message, Vice President Ansari said: "I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of Bhajan Lal, former Chief Minister of Haryana, former Union Cabinet Minister and distinguished Parliamentarian. During his political career and many years in public life, Bhajan Lal has immensely contributed to the development of Haryana and for the upliftment of the downtrodden and marginalized sections of society.
"My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and the wide circle of his admirers and friends and pray the Almighty to give them the strengthen to withstand this tragedy," he added.
Bhajan Lal was born in Koranwali, Bahawalpur District, now in Punjab (Pakistan) in a Bishnois sub-caste.
He was the chief minister of Haryana twice. He became chief minister for the first time from June 28, 1979 to July 5, 1985. He became a chief minister for a second time from July 23, 1991 to May 11, 1996.
He also served as union cabinet minister, holding the agriculture and environment and forest portfolio during the Rajiv Gandhi administration. (ANI)
