New Delhi, June 3 (ANI): BJP leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's aide-Rajendra Singh Rathore, who has been named as an accused in the Dara Singh fake encounter case today said that he was being framed in the case.
Asserting that he was a victim of political conspiracy, Rathore said he was not a convict, as they haven't found any evidence under CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which earlier today named Rathore as an accused in the case, claimed that that Dara Singh, a hard-core criminal, was gunned down in a fake gun battle by a team of Rajasthan Police's special operations group in October 2006.
The investigating agency has named 16 others for the killing. These include Additional Director General of Police A.K. Jain, Inspector General A. Ponnuchami, Additional Superintendent of Police Arsad Ali, Police Inspectors Nisar Khan and Naresh Sharma, Assistant Sub-Inspector Surendra Singh, Sub-Inspector Satyanarayan Godara and seven other policemen.
Dara Singh was killed in a police encounter on the outskirts of Jaipur on October 23, 2006.
Later, his family alleged that the encounter was staged. On their plea, the Supreme Court handed over the case to the CBI in April 2010.
The CBI has already arrested four police officials in connection with the case so far. (ANI)
