Skiers throng training camp in Manali

Manali, May 24 (ANI): Skiers throng the ongoing five-day long training camp in Manali to prepare for various international competitions.

The skiers have been rigorously trained in the camp so that they can give cutthroat competition to the international players at various upcoming events including Junior Olympics in 2012.

Slalom and Giant Slalom are the main skiing features for junior and sub junior category, which are being learned by the selected skiers of the country.

"This camp has been set up since May 21 and would continue for five days. We are training the skiers in Giant Slalom and Slalom. We are organising a race among the skiers and their time would be noted," said Subhash, executive head of the training camp.

"I find that this camp is very important especially for the juniors because they are the upcoming skiers, further going to represent India and for that you have to train people. At the international level there is very much competition as I think they train mostly for 12 months and here its just winters only three months maybe," said Anchal, a skier.

She further said that in India the skiers get less facilities and the training camps are held for a very short period, which is not enough to beat the foreign skiers who train throughout the year.

With the successful conclusion of South Asian Winter Games organised by Indian Olympic Association in early 2010, the officials are now aiming to train skiers who would bring laurels and pride to the nation. (ANI)
