New Delhi, May 21 (ANI): Appearing to endorse Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's police claim that Uttar Pradesh had acted violently against villagers in Bhatta Parsaul, the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the atrocities committed in the area.
"We demand a CBI inquiry into alleged police action against women villagers during and after the farmers-police clashes," said NCW Acting Chairperson Yasmeen Abarar.
Abarar also said that there have been allegations of tampering of evidence by the state administration.
"I want Uttar Pradesh Government to lodge FIR against the culprits and ensure free and fair investigation," she added.
Four persons, including two policemen, were killed in the clashes and firing in Bhatta-Parsaul villages last Saturday.
The opposition has flayed the Uttar Pradesh government for its land acquisition policy while Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who sat on a dharna at the village, alleged that the government has "unleashed atrocities on its own people."
The farmers have been agitating since January demanding higher compensation for their lands acquired by the state government.
Their demand is that only half their lands should be acquired, while the rest should be handed over to the farmers after development.
They also want 25 percent reservation for farmers in all schemes of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway.
The farmers have also been demanding that the authorities should give 120 square metre plots to landless farmers and a compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 for each acre of acquired land. (ANI)
