London, May 18 (ANI): Expletive-laden bedtime story about a father's frustration over his daughter's reluctance to go to bed has become a best seller, weeks before its release.

Adam Mansbach's children's book satire, titled 'Go The F*** To Sleep', the 32-page tome has hit No 1 on Amazon.com and has sold more than 100,000 copies in pre-orders since bootleg copies leaked online last month.

Its surging popularity has prompted publishers Akashic Books to move up its release from October to June 14, in time for America's Father's Day.

In an ode that empathises with fellow parents of young children, the 34-year-old author takes in all the frustrating ruses kids will use to hold off sleep, such as requests for one more story, a glass of water, another bathroom trip or a different teddy bear.

The story is composed as a poem, with a four-line stanza on each page, every one ending with the line: 'Please go the f*** to sleep.'

Mansbach, who is a visiting professor of fiction at Rutgers University and has several published works to his name, revealed that it was a Facebook rant that inspired the story.

"Hopefully, the book is very reflective of what we all feel putting our kids to bed. 'We all love our kids - it's not like we stop loving our kids - but as the minutes tick by, we'll do anything to get out of that room," the Daily Mail quoted him as telling Today show.

Mansbach also said that he was thrilled with the positive feedback.

"I've been really amazed and gratified by the response," he said.

"Obviously, this has hit a nerve; I knew it was funny when I wrote it, and it seemed like a universal sentiment, but it's been crazy to watch it take off.

"Even better, people seem to get the spirit in which it's intended - that it's an honest take on parenting, and that sometimes honesty is a little profane, but that doesn't mean we're not good parents, or that we don't love our kids.

"I think people are responding because this gives them permission to acknowledge their frustrations, and to laugh," he added. (ANI)
