London, May 14 (ANI): Amnesty International (AI) has questioned the killing of Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden by US Special Forces, saying that he should have been arrested and brought to justice.
Bin Laden was killed by US troops in a raid at Abbottabad last week.
On the occasion of the launch of the Global Amnesty Report, AI Secretary General Salil Shetty said that Amnesty has sought a clarification from the United States and Pakistan about the Abbottabad operation.
He stated that Amnesty International is against all forms of terrorism, whether by Taliban or Al-Qaeda or any Western power.
He said that Amnesty International rejects the idea of the US using the laws of war to tackle Al Qaeda.
The report stated that demands for freedom and justice and the rise of social media aid change towards human rights but this change stands on a knife-edge.
"There is a serious fight-back from the forces of repression. The international community must seize the opportunity for change and ensure that 2011 is not a false dawn for human rights," The Daily Times quoted Shetty, as saying.
The report documents specific restrictions on free speech in 89 countries, torture and ill treatment in 98 countries and reports on unfair trials in 54 countries.
It also highlighted a grim picture for activists in Ukraine, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan, violence in Nigeria, and a threat posed by Maoist armed insurgencies in central and northeast India. (ANI)
