New Delhi, May 13(ANI): Union Finance Minster Pranab Mukherjee on Friday said that the verdict of the Assembly polls in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry stands for change and stability.
Addressing the media in New Delhi, Mukherjee said: "The verdict of the people is both in favour of stability and also in favour of change. It may appear contradictory but it is not contradictory."
The Finance Minister also said that West Bengal has seen a major change with the victory of Trinamool Congress party (TMC) under Mamata Bannerjee.
He also stated that the Congress party had helped her in winning the polls, though they themselves also made an attempt for victory.
According to reports, the TMC-Congress combine has clinched 223 seats, way ahead of the 64 won by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM)-led Left Front government in the 296-member legislative assembly.
"It is not the fact that we did not make an attempt. We made an attempt. But we could not. And she (Mamata Banerjee) succeeded. In our own humble way we also helped her to achieve this success. If you just look at the arithmetic, Left's vote has come down by eight percent. Mamata's vote has increased by eight percent. And that has made all the difference. And this eight percent vote has come from Congress," Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee further stated that the party has taken its mixed results in various states in good spirit and will work to improve their status for the future.
"We accept with all humility the verdict of the people in all the states. We express our gratitude to the people who have supported us and have renewed their mandate on us or given new mandate. We will try to come up to their expectations. And where we have not received their mandate we accept it with humility," Mukherjee said. (ANI)
