London, May 12 (ANI): FIFA has demanded that Britain's Football Association (FA) provide evidence to support allegations of corruption and "unethical" behaviour against six executive committee members.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has vowed to complete the inquiry before next month's presidential election.
he request for evidence to support the allegations made in Parliament came as Mohamed Bin Hammam, Blatter's challenger in the presidential election, denied that Qatar had offered or paid bribes as part of its successful bid to host the 2022 World Cup, The Telegraph reports.
In a letter sent to FA chairman David Bernstein on Wednesday, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke asked for "urgent" assistance in investigating the allegations, levelled during a Parliamentary select committee hearing on Tuesday.
Former FA chairman Lord Triesman alleged that four executive committee members made inappropriate requests of him during England's bid for the 2018 World Cup in the Parliamentary hearing on Tuesday.
He claimed that Jack Warner requested a 2.5 million pounds "donation" for a school project in Trinidad, Nicolas Leoz, of Paraguay, asked for an honorary knighthood, Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand, wanted the TV rights from a friendly between Thailand and England, and Ricardo Teixeira, of Brazil, told him to "come and tell me what you have got for me".
The select committee also published allegations provided by The Sunday Times that two executive committee members, Issa Hayatou, of Cameroon, and Jacques Anouma, of Ivory Coast, were paid 1.5 million dollars in bribes by Qatar's bid for the 2022 World Cup.
Hayatou denied the allegations on Wednesday. (ANI)
