Thrissur (Kerala), May 9 (ANI): Artists in Kerala's Thrissur District are busy in making umbrellas that would be exhibited during the Kudamattam ritual of the popular temple festival, 'Thrissur Pooram'.

Kudamattam is the most important aspect of the temple festival where hundreds of beautiful umbrellas would be exhibited at the popular Vadakkunnathan temple by two other temples, Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple and Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple.

Around 600 umbrellas would be prepared this year.

"We have been working for the Pooram for the past two months. Now, the preparations are on the final phase," said Vasundhan, artist.

The umbrellas would be kept as a secret and would be disclosed only on the Pooram day.

"The cloths for making these umbrellas are coming from various parts. There are a lot of new varieties this year, which would be revealed only on the day of Pooram," said Purushottaman, artist.

The Thrissur Pooram, which is known as festival of all the festivals, is a major temple festival in Kerala.

The festival will commences on May 12. By Juhan Samuel (ANI)
