West Bengal polls: 21 percent votes cast in first two hours

Kolkata, May 3 (ANI): Twenty one per cent polling was recorded in the first two hours of voting in 63 constituencies in Howrah Hooghly, East Midnapore and parts of Burdwan Districts of West Bengal on Tuesday.

 

"The turnout so far is good. In the first two hours, polling was 21 per cent," officials said.

 

The voting, which started at 7 a.m. will continue till 5 p.m.

 

An electorate of 1.26 crore will decide the fate of 366 candidates, including several Ministers.

 

Prominent candidates, whose fate would be decided in this phase, include Industry Minister Nirupam Sen and Higher Education Minister Sudarshan Roy Chowdhury, Food Processing Minister Mohanta Chatterjee, Minister of State for Information and Culture Soumendranath Bera, Technical Education Minister Chakradhar Maikap, Agriculture minister Naren Dey and Fire Services Minister Pratim Chatterjee.

 

Tight security arrangements have been made in all the districts to ensure free, fair and peaceful election.

 

Altogether 15,711 polling booths have been set up in four districts. Besides one special observer 42 general, nine expenditure and four police observers are constantly monitoring the poll process.

 

Of the six phased elections in West Bengal, three have been completed on April 18, 23 and 27.he fifth phase will take place on May 7 and sixth on May 10. (ANI)

According to a report from Deadline.com, a pair of projects planned around the story of the mission to kill bin Laden have now shot to the top of Hollywood's timeliest films list, reports Fox News.

 

Oscar-winning 'Hurt Locker' director Kathryn Bigelow had already been preparing and beginning the casting process a few weeks ago for a film with the working title 'Kill Bin Laden'.

 

But in light of President Obama's Sunday night message to Americans announcing the death of the al Qaeda leader, the storyline will likely be changed to reflect the news.

 

A second project, a film adaptation of the book 'Jawbreaker' which was green-lighted in 2006, was also in the works with Paramount Pictures.

 

Several other script options have been attempted or discussed, Including one by Oliver Stone as a follow-up to his film 'World Trade Center' and a re-adaptation of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan character, both of which stalled (ANI)
