Police busted a gang of chain snatchers led by a girl

New Delhi, Thu, 24 Jan 2008 NI Wire

A call centre employee is the talk of the town for she led a gang that used to snatch gold chain; her part of story is that she jumped into this crime because she needed money for getting married to her boy friend.

The crime branch could catch this gang of chain snatcher on Tuesday, the gang known as “Black Santro” was waiting for their victim near Haldiram shop in Lajpat Nagar where police take hold in the situation and arrested the three member of the gang.

It is the 24 year call centre executive of an international airline who headed the team including her younger brother and his friend, it is reported that the girl used to earn Rs 25,000 as monthly salary.

A police officer said, “Ekta took her younger brother, Ashok (name changed) into confidence and approached one of his friends, Punit, who has a criminal record for snatching. They also managed to take another friend, Prem Chauhan, into confidence. They formed a gang and started operating in September.”

The police informed that the gang used a black santro while executing the crime, Ekta used to drive the car in the busy posh market while the other member of her team used to do the snatching and run to car for a quick escape.

It is reported that Ekta took this path to get married to her boyfriend as her marriage was not supported financially by her parents. This gang used to target women and used to snatch valuables including purse, chain and credit cards.

The gang used to change the car numbers by putting sticker on the number plate during crime.

But it is clear that it’s not the desperation of marriage but the greed that brought her to this crime; it’s ridiculous that even a salary of 25,000 was not enough.
