Pak public should come out on streets against US drone attacks: Shahbaz Sharif
Lahore, April 27(ANI): Pakistani public should come out on the streets in protest against drone attacks by the United States, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said.
Speaking at a gathering in Hasilpur, Shahbaz said that the Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) would fully support the public on the issue, the Dawn reports.
He further said that Pakistan would have to rid itself of foreign aid in order to bring an end to US drone attacks in the country's tribal areas.
He said that the government should not accept conditional aid from the US, and added that innocent Pakistanis were being killed in drone attacks.
Calls by Pakistani politicians to restrict drone attacks have intensified after the March 17 drone attack on a peace congregation in North Waziristan Agency that reportedly left over 39 innocent people dead.
Recently, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan held a two-day sit-in in Peshawar, aiming to block the land route used by NATO supply trucks in retaliation against deadly US drone attacks in the tribal areas.
Khan also warned on Sunday that his party workers and supporters would march to Islamabad if the US did not change its policy of carrying out drone attacks in Pakistan's tribal areas within a month.
The cricketer-turned-politician also urged the Pakistan Government to respect parliament's resolution that called for stopping US drone strikes in the country. (ANI)
