New Delhi, Apr 26 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted custodial parole to Vikas Yadav, who is serving life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case, to attend his younger brother's wedding on April 29.

The court, which allowed Vikas to attend the wedding function from 6 pm on April 29 till the completion of the ceremony by early hours the following day, directed the police to ensure safe and secure surroundings.

A division bench of Justices AK Sikri and ML Mehta also permitted Vikas to meet whoever he desires in the function during the permissible hours.

The court, however, declined to permit him to attend two reception events organised by his family on May 1 and May 6.

A city court had in May 2008 sentenced Vikas, the son of Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav for killing Nitish Katara, the son of an IAS officer.

Vikas and Vishal had allegedly abducted Katara, the son of an IAS officer, from a marriage party in Ghaziabad on the intervening night of February 16-17, 2002.

According to the prosecution, Katara, a business executive, was killed by the two accused, as they did not approve of their sister Bharti Yadav's growing proximity with him. (ANI)
