New Delhi, Apr. 26 (ANI): In a bid to connect African youths with India, a 24-member delegation from eleven African countries is on a week-long visit of India, starting from April 23.
They participated in an interaction programme called """""""India Future of Change""""""", a public private partnership between the IdeaWorks and PD Division of Ministry of External Affairs of India in New Delhi on Monday evening (April 25).
Alekeni Wodala Menyani, a Malawi lawmaker, told reporters that he had visited India to get an idea about the participation of youth in the upliftment of the country.
"The purpose of my visit to India, I came in, my capacity as young parliamentarian in the African context to lend some of the success stories of India in a number of issues, youth participation, small and medium enterprises, you know and also how India is emerging, to come from a developing nation to the prospect of becoming a developed nation in the near future," said Menyani.
Some delegates said their countries relations with India held out the prospect of a bright future.
"The future between Ghana and India, particularly Africa with India can only be bright, be brighter because I think India has to come back and have the position that"""""""s actually deserving in Africa. Because you see, we have a lot in common, we are talking of poverty together, we are talking about infrastructural development together, we talking of mutual understanding of each other and partnership that can change, the way we do things together.
It"""""""s not only about economic interest, it"""""""s about total friendship, friendship that we can talk in with the expertise and change our countries together," said Ato Forson, Ghana Lawmaker.
Meanwhile, Sudhir John Horo, principal sesigner and co-founder of the event, said the initiative was undertaken to provide a forum to professionals across world to discuss emerging realities in their respective countries.
"The basic spirit and the ethos that this particular initiative carries is compete thorough competition, collaborate and co-create a new future along with India. So depending on the ideas through which the contest serve is trying to call out people to participate and send in their entries. The idea is for people to look at how they could look at issues in India, which are essentially problems of India as well as most of the emerging world. There is something, those are issues where people could identify with. Things like health care, water, sanitation. But these are actually being addressed by making the youth across geographies. Look at these and understand the implications, the problems, the challenges in successes and through these contests bring it to the forth," said John Horo.
The main objective was to create a dynamic platform for both students and professionals to discuss emerging bilateral and global realities.
The young African parliamentarians will also visit the cities of Pune and Mumbai in western India. (ANI)
