A joint committee consisting members of International Tennis Federation (ITF), Women's Tennis Association (WTA), ATP and the Grand Slam team would be investigating the fact with regard to the match-fixing, after Mahesh Bhupathi came out with an eye-opener in Melbourne surprising the whole tennis world, of Davis Cup tie played against Dutch more than a decade back.

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has taken a serious note of the disclosure after Indian tennis star Bhupathi alleging that someone had approached him to give-up his Davis Cup match against the Netherlands that India had won 3-2 at Jaipur way back in 1996.

“There is no history and it appears as a lone incident. Indian tennis is absolutely clean but we will conduct an inquiry to ascertain whether any other members of the Indian Davis Cup teams had experienced any such thing, over the years”, said AITA, General Secretary, Anil Khanna in a statement here.

"AITA president Yashwant Sinha has also therefore, suggested that a probe should be conducted."

The inquiry is being conducted to protect the integrity of the sport and to keep the image of our country clean.

The committee will have a detailed chat with all the members of the Indian team, be it a coach, player, captain or the supporting staff, who have been part of the Davis Cup campaigns since 1996 to find out if there is any such incident they become aware of other than this one.

Bhupathi revealed this shocking information to the media at Melbourne that he had received a call to throw his match in that Davis Cup tie. Though, Bhupathi had eventually won both his singles and clinched that tie in country’s favour.
