Stockholm, Oct 3 (DPA) The 2008 winner of the Nobel Literature Prize will be announced Oct 9, the Swedish Academy said Friday.
The announcement fills in the outstanding blank in the Nobel week calendar as the other institutions that award prizes for medicine, physics, chemistry and peace as well as economics had earlier confirmed their dates.
British writer Doris Lessing won the 2007 literature prize.
The Nobel week announcements begin Monday (Oct 6) when the Karolinska Institute is due to announce the medicine prize.
The Royal Academy of Sciences was set to follow with the physics prize Tuesday and the chemistry prize Wednesday. The peace prize is to be announced Oct 10 in Oslo, Norway.
Each prize, worth 10 million kronor (1.5 million dollars), is endowed by Swedish industrialist and dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel.
The economic sciences prize - a prize not endowed by Nobel and awarded since 1968 - is slated to be announced Oct 13.
The award ceremonies are held December 10 in Stockholm and Oslo, the anniversary of Nobel's 1896 death in San Remo, Italy.
