Tashkent, Apr 16 (ANI): Gulnara Karimova, the pop star daughter of Uzbekistan's dictator who is also the country's ambassador to Spain, has been caught up in a 14 million pounds battle between Rivaldo and his former Uzbek club, FC Bunyodkor, over claims that he did not get paid properly.
Thirty-eight-year-old Rivaldo is suing the club by claiming that he was paid only for one season during his two years experience with his team, that eventually led to him to quit a year ahead of the end of his contract on August last year.
Rivaldo, who holds both Brazilian and Spanish citizenship, has now sought Karimova's help to deal with the issue, The Telegraph reports.
Rivaldo, who was in Brazil's 2002 winning world cup team and played for FC Barcelona for five years, sued Zeromax, a Swiss-registered Uzbek holding company that owns Bunyodkor.
Luis Pereira, his Geneva-based lawyer, said that his client was "very happy" when he had joined the club initially, but things began to change gradually.
"He was very happy with the way things were going at the beginning. He got very well-acquainted with the club and he was very happy to play there," Pereira said, adding that Rivaldo began to worry that he would not get paid by the middle of the second season.
"He signed for three years, and he almost got to the end of the second season. But by the time he left, he had only been paid for one season. The contract has not been honoured," he added.
He also reportedly brought up the case in the FIFA run 'Chamber of Dispute Resolution'. (ANI)
