New Delhi, Apr 12 (ANI): Slamming the Centre and the State Governments over various scams, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, on Tuesday assured the success of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, which goes to polls tomorrow.
Swaraj said she is confident of the BJP's success in the polls after seeing the displeasure of the public with the current State Governments and the Centre.
"Anger at the State Government, disappointment at the Central Government and the expectation from the Bharatiya Janata Party to appear as a good opposition, we got these three factors while campaigning for elections and this is our firm belief which we are showing to you for the fact that in all the three states, we would show our mighty presence," she said.
The BJP veteran further said the frequent price-hikes and exposes of various corruption scams had also soured public feeling against the ruling Congress Government.
"Price-rise and corruption have merged with each other in a manner that the public used to think that it's an attempt to put salt on their wounds because on one hand, the common man was facing the heat of price-rise and inflation while on the other, people were seeing what enormous wealth they (ruling party ministers) had accumulated by corrupt means and they were leading luxurious life," said Swaraj.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
In Tamil Nadu, four and a half crore voters will decide the fate of 2,773 candidates in 234 Assembly constituencies. In Kerala, a total of 2.31 crore electorates will decide the fate of 971 candidates, majority of them independents. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar commented on the recently exposed cash-for-votes scandal during the trust vote.
"See, basically, this cash-for-votes scam is the worst chapter in Indian democracy where the minority government bonded over the majority and proved its majority on the approval of the house by dubious means and this happened the second time, once during Narsimha Rao's (P. V. Narsimha Rao, former Prime Minister) regime and this time under Manmohan Singh's," said Javadekar.
"So we've decided to blow the whistle on the entire episode and the corruption scam. Now we really want the truth to come out and the government is shying away from any kind of further inquiry. We want a Supreme Court monitored investigation," he added.
The BJP has been demanding the Congress party clarifies its stand on the cash-for-votes scandal during the 2008 trust vote, wherein the Centre was accused of buying lawmakers to win the confidence in the debate on the nuclear deal, as revealed by WikiLeaks cable. (ANI)
