Minsk, Apr 12 (ANI): At least eleven people were killed and 126 others were wounded in an explosion which tore through a metro station in the Belarus capital Minsk on Monday evening.
The blast occurred on a platform at the Oktyabrskaya Metro Station, one of the city's busiest underground railway junctions, which is about 100 metres from the main presidential headquarters.
According to witnesses, the explosion tore through a crush of waiting passengers just as a train pulled in to the station.
"There was blood everywhere, in splashes and in pools. I saw pieces of flesh. It was terrible," said a witness.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said the blast was an attempt to destabilize the country.
"We must find out who gained by undermining peace and stability in the country, who stands behind this," The China Daily quoted Lukashenko, as saying.
Lukashenko also linked the explosion to a previous unsolved blast in 2008 that wounded nearly 50 people, saying: "These are perhaps links in a single chain."
Meanwhile, blast victims have been carried out of the station and the injured were given on-the-spot medical treatment by ambulance workers before being taken to hospital. (ANI)
