New Delhi, Apr 5 (ANI): Melanie Schultz Van Hagen, Minister of Infrastructure and Environment, Netherlands, called on Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Dr. C.P. Joshi here on Tuesday.
During the meeting, they discussed the issues of the problem of traffic jams, road safety, pollution control and use of information technology in maintaining traffic management.
Dr Joshi informed the visiting Minister, who was accompanied by a delegation that the efforts are on to include road safety in school education curriculam in the country.
He stressed upon the integration of information technology (IT) in road safety and traffic management and said that his ministry is using IT tools including google earth as well as facebook for the convenience of the road users and common man.
He emphasized on the installation of proper navigation system in the vehicles plying on the road to locate them for proper traffic management.
He also informed the visiting delegation that his ministry is trying to find out the various reasons responsible for the road accidents and said that a mass awareness campaign has been launched by his ministry for road safety.
The Netherlands Minister expressed her concern on Road safety and desired to know what the Government of India is doing to prevent road accidents.
A contact group can be formed between two countries to facilitate road safety and traffic management and there should be data exchange also on the important issue, she said. (ANI)
