India deploys relief, rehabilitation team in quake-hit Japan

New Delhi, Apr 4 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has deployed a 46-member Indian Relief and Rehabilitation Team (IRRT) in the earthquake and tsunami affected areas of Japan since March 28.

 

"The Team belongs to the National Disaster Response Force of the National Disaster Management Authority. This is their first ever deployment abroad. The team has been assigned relief work in the some of the worst affected towns of Miyagi Prefecture. They have set up base in the town of Rifu-Cho, about 365 kms north east of Tokyo and are presently working in the town Onagawa," the MEA release said.

 

"They have made contributed to the relief effort by recovering bodies and valuables and clearing debris. The work of the IRRT has been appreciated by the Japanese people and the Government of Japan," the release adds. (ANI)
