Pirates kill one, take 17 fishermen hostage in Philippines

Manila, Oct 3 (Xinhua) One fisherman was killed and 17 others were held hostage by pirates off the coast of southern Philippine province of Tawi-Tawi, a media report said Thursday.

 

Pirates armed with M-16 rifles attacked the fishermen on four fishing boats off the Tawi-Tawi coast, the GMA TV channel reported, adding that one fisherman was shot dead when he fired warning shots.

 

 

No further details were immediately available.
