Vijayalakshmy Gupta takes over as Secretary (Defence Finance)

New Delhi, Apr 1 (ANI): Vijayalakshmy K Gupta, an Indian Defense Accounts Service (IDAS) officer of 1974 batch, has taken over as Secretary (Defence Finance) following the retirement of Nita Kapoor.

Gupta was Member (Finance) in the Telecom Commission till recently.

A Post Graduate in Political Science and Public Administration from Bombay University, having been awarded a Gold Medal in 1974, Gupta also acquired a Doctorate Degree in Women's Human Rights from Barkatullah University, Bhopal, last year.

She has held several key assignments, including Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development and Additional Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Defence.

Gupta headed the Inter-Ministerial Committee that finalized the design of the auction of 3G Spectrum in May, 2010, that yielded unprecedented revenue of more than Rs. 1.06 lakh crore to the public exchequer, far in excess of the reserve price of Rs. 35,000 crores.

From September 2005 to November 2008, she was the financial advisor to the 2010 Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organizing Committee, responsible for budget formulation, expenditure control, financial reforms, manpower planning and risk management among others. (ANI)
