Fresh charge sheet against Ansal Brothers

New Delhi, Sat, 19 Jan 2008 NI Wire

A new charge sheet moved against Ansal Brothers before a trial court on Friday by the Delhi police, has given a blow to Ansal’s who were riding free after getting bail.

Delhi Police has claimed to have a prima facie charge case against Ansals for tempering with judicial records. It’s only been two month after they were sentenced in Uphaar tragedy case of 1997.

The duos were charged against criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidences. If they will be found guilty for the same they could be sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

It is reported that way back in 2003 the crucial document which were against Ansals were found to be missing from the court’s records.

The document which is said to be missing is police memo with information of four cheques issued by Ansals, who claimed that they ceased to be the Board of Directors long before the incident took place. The document included four cheques of Rs 50 lakh signed by the duo in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and records of meeting presided over by Gopal Ansal as the Managing Director of Uphaar Cinema.

That evidence was an ultimate proof of their capacity as Board of Directors and handling the business of Uphaar cinema against their claim that they resigned from the post long back.

Last year in November the two brothers were convicted by the trail court for their involvement in Uphaar fire tragedy, in which 59 people were charred to death during the screening of movie Border.

This certainly will boast the victims’ family who are waiting for the justice.
