Krejza all set for Test debut in Bangalore
Melbourne, Oct 2 (IANS) All set to make his Test debut against India, off-spinner Jason Krejza says he is ready for the challenge.
Krejza, 25, was to be the understudy to the leg-spinning Bryce McGain, but is now set to become Australia's 402nd Test cricketer in Bangalore next week.
McGain has a painful back muscle and was unable to bowl after pulling up sore from an arduous net session Tuesday. He now faces the embarrassing prospect of returning home before bowling a ball in a match on his maiden international tour. His injury has provided Krejza a chance to make his Test debut.
'That's horrible news for Bryce but that gives me a chance. I think I am ready for the challenge,' Krejza was quoted as saying in Herald Sun.
Krejza was impressive in Australia's scratch-match against the Rajasthan Academy last weekend where he claimed three wickets, and will have the chance to fine tune his preparation against Indian Board President's XI starting Thursday.
Krejza has a chequered history in first-class cricket. He started his career with New South Wales and fell foul of some officials before shifting to Tasmania.
His career hung in the balance before last summer when he was caught drink driving and was banned from training with the Tigers for the entire pre-season.
He then swore off alcohol and was rewarded with 18 wickets at 47.1 in the Pura Cup. Krejza can bowl what has been dubbed the 'carrom ball'.
